BREAKING NEWS: Top tackle prospect: Chiefs vying with Cowboys and Patriots

Chiefs and Patriots are vying for the top tackle prospect.brea

The Chiefs’ brass, including Brett Veach and Andy Reid, is working diligently to get ready for the 2024 NFL Draft. The team clearly needs offensive tackle, and Kansas City is already focusing on first- and second-round prospects who might play offensive tackle and help the team win a third straight Super Bowl.

Kingsley Suamataia of BYU, one such prospect, is expected to visit the Chiefs this week. With appearances planned in Dallas and New England, the talented cousin of Lions star Penei Sewell is a sought-after commodity and will provide Kansas City with competition on the circuit.

Suamataia, a former five-star recruit who stands 6’5″ and 326 pounds, is expected to be selected early in the second round. The Chiefs will probably have to trade back to the start of the second round, as they did to acquire Chris Jones in 2016, or use their first-round pick if they want him.

In 11 games in 2023, he played 644 snaps for the Cougars, giving up just two sacks and nine QB hurries. Suamataia is incredibly athletic; even as a freshman, she was able to reach 21.5 mph. He would be a perfect fit for some of the run game pulling schemes that Reid and Matt Nagy enjoy using because of his remarkable burst and quickness.

Suamataia is experienced at both tackle positions, and we all know how Reid values offensive linemen with versatility. With Patrick Mahomes, he is an essential strong pass blocker who uses his size and dexterity to bully opponents.

Suamataia would be a reasonable draft pick for the Chiefs, especially with the depth at wide receiver, another position where Kansas City needs some reinforcements, even though his technique needs work.

Suamataia is undoubtedly a name to keep in mind in the upcoming weeks, but we’ll see what transpires with his visit and the draught process over the course of the following month.
