With that in mind, there will almost certainly be a slew of midfield names circulating in the coming months.
Newcastle is reportedly ‘closely monitoring’ Demirbay, according to Sky Germany through Sport Witness.
The 29-year-old is under contract until 2024, and a ‘transfer is likely’ in the next window.
According to the report, a sum of roughly €4-5 million would be sufficient to entice him away from Leverkusen.
With Newcastle pounding on his door, he may ‘imagine’ taking the next step in the summer.
Hertha Berlin and Fiorentina are also rumored to be interested in Demirbay.
Demirbay is a viable option for Newcastle. In the midst of the park, he is a high-quality, experienced choice.
According to the Bundesliga’s official website, Demirbay is “capable of befuddling opposition defenders and goalkeepers with his incisive left boot,” and his “pinpoint passing ability” is praised.
Demirbay is available at a discount because his £83,000-per-week contract expires in 2024.
Furthermore, he is familiar with Joelinton, having played 26 games with him at Hoffenheim (Transfermarkt).
