The Football Association (FA) punished Nottingham Forest after their players swarmed referee Chris Kavanagh during their match against Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this month.
For the incident, Steve Cooper’s team was fined £55,000.
After Kavanagh waived away an apparent handball by Wolves defender Nelson Semedo, Forest players protested.
“Nottingham Forest FC has been fined £55,000 after its players surrounded a match official during the 40th minute of the Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers FC on Saturday 1 April 2023,” an FA spokesperson said.
“Nottingham Forest FC admitted that it failed to ensure that its players conducted themselves in an orderly manner and did not behave inappropriately.”
“An independent Regulatory Commission imposed the club’s sanction following a hearing.”
During the game, two further unrelated events occurred that resulted in FA charges.
After being sent off for pushing one other on the touchline in the 52nd minute, both Forest assistant coach Alan Tate and Wolves assistant Pablo Sanz were charged with alleged “improper and/or violent” behavior.
The FA also charged Wolves forward Daniel Podence for spitting at Brennan Johnson.
The game concluded in a 1-1 tie.
Both teams have had previous clashes this season, with the FA charging Forest and Wolves in March for a brawl during a penalty shootout in which stewards were forced to intervene.
Wolves are 13th in the Premier League, seven points clear of the relegation zone, while Forest are 18th.
Eight months into the season, Nottingham Forest still don’t seem to know who their best team is.
