After Brighton and Hove Albion thrashed Wolves 6-0 in the Premier League on Saturday, Jay Bothroyd has urged Tottenham Hotspur to appoint Roberto De Zerbi as their new manager via Twitter.
Tottenham is still vying for Champions League football next season, but instead of looking above, they may have to look behind them in the race for Europe.
The Seagulls are ninth in the Premier League, two points behind Tottenham Hotspur and with two games in hand on the managerless side.
Despite Roberto De Zerbi making five changes to his lineup for yesterday’s game against Wolves, which saw an understrength Brighton side smash Wolves for six.
If Tottenham hierarchy had any sense they would be trying to get De Zerbi from Brighton!!!!
He has built a great team there at Brighton!! 👌🏽— Jay bothroyd (@jaybothroyd) April 29, 2023
It was a serious statement of intent from the European-chasing team, and it only adds to De Zerbi’s ever-growing managerial game – Daniel Levy is said to have already made contact with the Brighton manager.
Will Brighton keep the 43-year-old this summer? Former Arsenal manager Bothroyd has stated unequivocally that if Spurs had “any sense,” they would hire another Italian manager this summer.
There is a good potential that Brighton will play in Europe next season for the first time in their history, which would be a significant milestone for the club.
If that happens, De Zerbi and his key players should stay and support Brighton in their European campaign next season — he has explicitly advised Tottenham-linked Kaoru Mitoma to stay beyond the summer amid interest.
Plus, there’s a chance Spurs won’t be in Europe next season, but Brighton will, so why switch from one thriving pool to one on the decline?
