This summer, Newcastle United are interested in signing Arsenal’s left-back.
On Sunday afternoon, one of Newcastle United’s summer transfer targets assisted Arsenal to a 2-0 victory at St James’ Park.
Kierney, who has been linked with Newcastle and Aston Villa, was introduced on the hour mark in place of Oleksandr Zinchenko at left defender as Arsenal closed the gap on Premier League leaders Manchester City.
If this was an audition, the Scotland international did not disappoint. He kept Miguel Almiron quiet and contributed to Arsenal’s second goal by intercepting a pass during the build-up.
Eddie Howe wants to bring in a full-back to supplement Dan Burn and Matt Targett. Burn is a known centre-half but has spent the majority of the season there, while Targett has only made five Premier League appearances.
Tierney is said to be considering leaving the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season, despite having just made one league start since Boxing Day. His appearance as a substitute versus United was his 19th of the season.
A bid of roughly £30 million could persuade Arsenal to trade their current backup left-back.
Tierney joined North London from Celtic in 2019 for a fee of £25 million. Despite dealing with injuries throughout that period, the 25-year-old has remained fit and available for the entire 2022-23 season.
When asked if Tierney would be leaving soon, Arteta replied in March, “I don’t know, I’m not thinking about it.” I’m thinking about what’s best for the club and the players who have earned the right to play minutes, and we’re going to attempt to achieve that in the next couple of games.”
