Newcastle beat Chelsea in hot race to sign €38m Napoli defensive midfielder this summer
Chelsea and Newcastle are reportedly interested in Napoli midfielder Stanislas Lobotka, who has been instrumental for the club this season.
Lobotka has made 111 appearances for Napoli since joining the club in January 2020 from Celta Vigo in Spain, with this season being his most active for the club.
This season, the Slovakian international has made 46 appearances across all competitions, 35 of which have been in Serie A, which Napoli won at the start of May.
Lobotka, a defensive midfielder, has been an important player of Luciano Spalletti’s side, and Il Mattino reports that Chelsea and Newcastle are interested in the 28-year-old.
Lobotka, who is tasked with sitting in front of the defense, is a neat player with exceptional ball-playing skills who would be a wonderful match for either of these sides, particularly Chelsea, who are in desperate need of a defensive midfielder.
When compared to the three-figure sums being bandied about for the likes of Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo, the Napoli man could be a more than viable option for the two Premier League sides, so don’t be surprised if more clubs show an interest in the Slovak this summer.
