£2m player may regret bouncing leeds in January as relegation hits new club

Leeds United will be planning for a much busier summer transfer window than what they had in January.

The window is set to reopen again on June 14 though Leeds still have plenty of work to do on the field before Daniel Farke can properly start thinking about that.

Leeds play the second leg of their Championship play-off semi-final second leg with Norwich City tomorrow knowing a win would take them to within just 90 minutes of the Premier League.

Promotion would lead to a considerably more exciting summer at Leeds as they look to build a squad capable of stabilising itself in the top-flight.

On the other hand, 49ers Enterprises have already acknowledged behind-the-scenes that key players would have to be sold if they stay down in order to comply with PSR rules.

With those regulations considerably tighter in the EFL, that could be a big reason as to why Leeds were so quiet in the winter window.

Daiki Hashioka could be regretting decision to reject Leeds

Right-back was Leeds’ main position of priority back in January and they eventually found their man on deadline day when Connor Roberts joined from Burnley.

Roberts certainly wasn’t the only target Leeds looked at as Ben Johnson, Neco Williams and Calvin Ramsay were all linked. The latter was very much a bullet dodged.

Of the players Leeds were interested in but did not join was Daiki Hashioka, with reports from Belgium indicating at one point the deal was as good as done.

However, Luton Town secured an 11th hour hijack of Hashioka and prised him to Kenilworth Road with the lure of Premier League football for around £2 million.

Hashioka may now be regretting that decision with Luton heading into the final day of the season needing a major goal difference swing to survive. They are Championship in all but the mathematics.

The 24-year-old has had a bit of a nightmare time of it at Luton. He has been on the winning side just once in nine appearances, and has actually managed to score two own goals, though not entirely his fault.

Leeds could find themselves in a higher division than Hashioka next season if they manage to win the play-offs and that would certainly rub salt into the wounds of his decision not to move to Elland Road.
