DEAL DONE : Fabrizio Romano confirms as Filip Marschall complete medicals

According to Football Insider, Aston Villa goalkeeper Filip Marschall has agreed to return to Gateshead on loan.

The 19-year-old has had a medical with the non-league club and is expected to complete the transfer soon.

Villa has approved the trade, allowing the budding star to gain regular game time.

Marschall, an England Under-19 international, is highly valued within Villa Park’s power structure and signed a new contract last August.

He was on the bench for Liverpool’s Boxing Day defeat, although he is behind the senior keepers in the club’s pecking order.

Marschall spent the second part of last season on loan at Gateshead, where he made 19 appearances and kept six clean sheets as the North East club won promotion to the National League.

Football Insider originally reported on January 6 that he was in talks to return to the club on loan – and the prodigy has now agreed to terms with the Tynesiders.

This season, he has made eight appearances for Villa’s various youth teams and has also captained the Under-21s in an EFL Cup match against Portsmouth.

Marschall has an FA Youth Cup winner’s medal under his name after being a member of the team that defeated Liverpool 2-1 in the 2021 final at Villa Park.

Gateshead is battling after dropping to England’s fifth division.

They are 21st in the table, two points from safety, and have played one more game than relegation rivals Oldham Athletic (20th).

Against Saturday, the Heed will take on Dorking Wanderers (21 January).

In other news, a pundit says Tyrone Mings may leave Aston Villa for Premier League rivals following a new claim.
