£30m Spurs target get’s more spectacular in Europa League final, truly remarkable

A Tottenham Hotspur target has received rave reviews after his display in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.

Ange Postecoglou is gearing up for a crucial summer transfer window as he bids to build on a positive debut campaign.

Tottenham secured a fifth-place finish over the weekend and will be back in Europe next term after missing out last season.

Postecoglou has reportedly decided he wants to strengthen three positions ahead of next season by bringing in a centre-back, a midfielder and a forward.

Added depth in the middle of the park feels like a must for Spurs, particularly at the base of midfield with Yves Bissouma struggling for form in recent months.

Postecoglou may have kept a keen eye on last night’s Europa League final, with a Tottenham midfield target impressing en route to lifting the trophy.

Tottenham target Ederson earns rave reviews after Europa League final

Atalanta ended Bayer Leverkusen’s 51-game unbeaten streak in last night’s final in Dublin.

Ademola Lookman starred as he netted a stunning hat-trick to hand Gian Piero Gasperini’s men a 3-0 victory. But Ederson, who is on Tottenham’s radar, also impressed in the middle of the park.

Football Italia handed the Brazilian an 8/10 match rating and praised him for a dominant performance in midfield.

“A dominant force for Atalanta, the 24-year-old was all over the pitch, pressing with intensity and shutting things down in the centre, proving a frustrating figure for Bayer Leverkusen,” the outlet wrote.

Euro Sport Italy gave Ederson an 8.5 and labelled him as a ‘truly sensational’ midfielder.

“As in Rome with Juventus, he is the best there in the Dea’s middle,” they wrote. “He starts with personality even in the first minutes, which are a bit confusing.

“He has physique and quality, always cleans up with two touches and dirties all the second balls. A truly sensational midfielder. There has been much talk in the market about Koopmeiners and his goals, but in this fairytale of the Dea, Ederson has played a leading role throughout the season.”

On Sky Sports Italy, Ederson was voted 9/10 for his final display, the second-highest of any Atalanta player behind hat-trick hero Lookman.

Ederson’s Europa League final stats

Spurs are lacking a player who can effectively protect the back four and Ederson ticks plenty of boxes for Postecoglou’s side.

The 24-year-old could be available for as little as £30 million this summer, with recent reports claiming Tottenham have already held talks over signing the Brazilian.

His display in last night’s final highlighted exactly what Spurs are missing in the middle of the park and the statistics from Sofascore certainly back up the reviews from the media.
