4-2-3-1 Lineup as Bayern Munich drops strong starting XI to battle Man City in Champions League

Bayern Munich

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting missed the weekend’s 1-0 victory over SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga due to a knee injury. And the Cameroonian international is still questionable for Tuesday’s game.Dayot Upamecano was also absent from that game due to a string of yellow cards. He will, however, be available to partner Matthijs de Ligt at the heart of Bayern’s defense on Tuesday.

With Manuel Neuer out for an extended period of time, Yann Sommer will be in goal. The quickness of Alphonso Davies is terrifying. And he could play as an advanced winger here, stretching the City defense and isolating them in 1v1 situations out wide.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Pavard and Joao Cancelo will compete for a spot on the opposing wing. And it is likely that the former Manchester City man will miss out, since the Frenchman can tuck in to create a back-three if Davies finds himself in forward areas.

So far, Tuchel has trusted Choupo-Moting up front as well as Serge Gnabry acting as the false nine. The Cameroonian has a knock, so expect to see a false nine-anchored system. But it could be any one of Gnabry, Sadio Mane, Thomas Muller, or maybe Kingsley Coman or Leroy Sane.

Joshua Kimmich, along with Leon Goretzka, is a foregone conclusion in midfield. Jamal Musiala, a young phenom, would undoubtedly be one to watch in this matchup. This season in the Bundesliga, the German attacker has been in excellent form, scoring eleven goals and giving nine assists.

However, his European scoring record has been less remarkable this season, as he has failed to score a goal in seven Champions League games. Still, if he can show his talent in this match, it will be an excellent opportunity for him to shine.

Sadio Mane, a former Liverpool player, is looking forward to returning to England. However, despite scoring 12 goals by October, he has not scored since and will be relegated to the bench today.

Probable lineup (4-2-3-1): Sommer; Pavard, de Ligt, Upamecano, Davies; Goretzka, Kimmich; Sane, Musiala, Coman; Muller
