Alabama set to host trio of transfer portal targets, HS prospects this weekend

Another week, another impressive group of visitors expected in Tuscaloosa. Bama247 breaks it all down! The NCAA Transfer Portal window is officially closed. That doesn’t mean the portal coverage stops though.

It’s only heating up more if you’re an Alabama fan. Kalen DeBoer and his staff did an excellent job in April addressing position of needs by adding Kadyn Proctor back from Iowa, bringing in Lou Groza Award winner Graham Nicholson (Miami-Ohio) and most recently, welcoming defensive back Kameron Howard (UNC-Charlotte) on Monday afternoon.  The Crimson Tide addressed part of the secondary with the addition of Howard, but adding more cornerbacks remains a top priority.

Alabama signed a trio of five-star cornerbacks in 2024 (Jaylen Mbakwe, Zabien Brown and Zay Mincey) and also brought in Domani Jackson from USC. Sophomore Jahlil Hurley is there too, which makes for just five scholarship cornerbacks on the current roster. DeBoer talked about the need for more depth when first addressing the transfer portal as it pertains to the current roster in April.

“You’re always looking for top talent, but it’s about sheer numbers to practice and be able to get the competition that you need out there,” he said, in part. “A lot of defensive backs are involved in special teams, too.”  Two of the confirmed transfer portal weekend visitors certainly check off those boxes and then some. The third could “even help some guys who are struggling catching on to the newness of the defense,” if he ended up committing. The staff will also welcome a trio of high school prospects including a pair of return visitors from spring practice.
