According to journalist Dean Jones, Aston Villa are now putting pressure on Leeds United to sign Wilfried Gnonto this summer.
Jones spoke with GiveMeSport and provided an update on Villa’s search for a new forward.
Unai Emery is preparing his team for a return to European football, and he will definitely aim for trophies in his first full season in command.
Villa qualified for the Europa Conference League after a strong finish to the previous season, and considering the Spaniard’s track record in Europe, he’ll be looking to win the league.
The Villains are anticipated to make another winger move in order to provide Emery with the depth he needs to compete on all fronts next season.
Following Leeds’ relegation to the Championship, they have been widely linked with a deal for Wilfried Gnonto.
Indeed, according to Alessio Lento of Calciomercato, Villa are eager to sign the winger ahead of Everton.
And Jones claims Emery’s team is now ‘making a serious push’ to win the race for the kid.
Villa is making a strong push to sign Gnonto.
Jones says to GiveMeSport that Villa are attempting to sign Gnonto this summer, with the Leeds winger also garnering interest from Italy.
“I know that things fell apart in the end, but it would be a shame for the Premier League to lose him completely,” he remarked.
“There are some teams in Italy keeping a closer eye on the Gnonto situation right now, but Villa are making a strong push in this transfer window, and a player like that would be really exciting.”
Gnonto was a standout for Leeds last season, with two goals and four assists in the Premier League.
Despite Leeds’ relegation, the 19-year-old has attracted interest from a number of clubs for his straightforward approach.
On BBC Radio Leeds, his teammate Joe Gelhardt described him as a’very fast’ player, and he appears to be a good fit for Emery’s system.
Gnonto has a great future ahead of him and would be an interesting option for Emery next season.
