Morgan Sanson, the Aston Villa midfielder, is free to depart this summer, and former loan club Strasbourg are anxious to bring him back to France.
Strasbourg and new manager Patrick Vieira are so eager on bringing Morgan Sanson back to the club permanently this summer that they are willing to make the Aston Villa midfielder their highest paid player in order to persuade him to stay.
Sanson will undoubtedly be allowed to depart Villa on a permanent basis this summer. Sanson was loaned out by Unai Emery in January after failing to get into the first-team picture under the Spaniard and predecessor Steven Gerrard, and he returns to Bodymoor Heath this summer to find Youri Tielemans in place.
The Belgian not only adds to the battle for a midfield slot, but Villa have also announced Tielemans as their new number eight – the number worn by Sanson last season – which might be interpreted as a warning sign for the Frenchman. Tielemans competes for a position alongside countrymen Leander Dendoncker, captain John McGinn, academy graduate of the year Jacob Ramsey, Douglas Luiz, and Boubacar Kamara.
So Sanson, like Marvelous Nakamba and one or two other Villa players, will be permitted to leave this summer, despite the fact that he has a few of years left on his contract. He seemed to have made an impression in the second half of his time in Strasbourg.
Sanson appeared in 18 league games last season and scored once, against Lyon, as Strasbourg finished 15th in Ligue 1 and narrowly avoided relegation. L’Equipe reports that they want to bring Sanson back and provide him the best deal possible – but much will rely on if Sanson can escape the balance of his Villa contract because a large transfer price is not something they can accommodate.
