Bad news for Aston Villa as two key players suffer huge injury blow ahead of pre-season

BirminghamLive brings you the latest Aston Villa news, including Bertrand Traore’s injury before pre-season.

Bertrand Troare of Aston Villa suffered an injury while on international duty with Burkina Faso and will return to the UK for treatment.

After pulling a muscle in his country’s 3-1 loss to Cape Verde in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying, the winger may now miss the start of Villa’s pre-season program. He hobbled off the field in the 62nd minute, with Burkina Faso tied at one.

Traore’s future at Villa Park is questionable as he enters the final year of his contract. Unai Emery recalled him from his loan spell at Istanbul Basaksehir in January to bolster Villa’s assault.

Emery hoped to buy a striker and a winger in January, but after being turned down by some targets, the head coach chose to wait until the summer transfer window. Traore then returned with something to prove after being loaned away by previous manager Steven Gerrard last summer.

Traore appeared in eight games for Emery last season, scoring two key goals in the club’s effort to qualify for European play.

In April, he scored a stunning last-minute victory against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium before netting the game-winning goal against Nottingham Forest a few days later.
