Glenn Robinson III has been out of the NBA for a season and a half, but the 29-year-old is desperate to return.
On July 6, the 2017 NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion told Fieldhouse Files’ Scott Agness that he expected to have team practices the following week.
According to the 2014 NBA Draft pick, the Boston Celtics attended John Wall’s private workout last weekend and have “expressed interest” in Robinson, as have the Milwaukee Bucks and Golden State Warriors.
“I’ve been secretly training and getting ready for the last four months,” Robinson explained to Agness. “It’s like riding a bike now that I’m back in the gym and committed to OK, this is what I want to do.”
“When I return, I know I need to step it up, take my mental game to a whole new level, take my physical game to a whole new level.” I know teams want to see if I’m aggressive, if I’m willing to do things that I was hesitant to do before I went. How is he coming back after being a vet for 29 years? “I’m just taking pride in everything.”
Robinson, whose father was the first overall choice in the 1994 NBA Draft, averaged 5.9 points per game on 37.3% 3-point shooting and 2.6 rebounds in seven seasons. He’s played for six different teams, the longest of which was with the Indiana Pacers from 2015 to 2018.
This offseason, the Celtics signed Oshae Brissett and Dalano Banton, and Robinson, at 6-foot-7, might give further wing depth. The Green will be up against the second apron of the luxury tax, so looking for low-risk, high-reward options will be a trend, and Robinson meets the bill for at least a preseason opportunity.
