The Colorado Buffaloes and Deion Sanders are not having a great start to the college football offseason. After a 4-8 season, they lost two top quarterback recruits for the 2024 and 2025 cycles. Then the transfer portal opened up and players started putting their names in. Starting offensive lineman Gerad Lichtenhan announced he is entering the transfer portal.
Colorado Buffaloes, Deion Sanders Lose Gerad Lichtenhan
Lichtenhan has spent four years with the Buffaloes. According to PFF, he had the most starts on the offense in 2023. While the offensive line struggled immensely this season, a lot of this was due to injuries. Sanders tried to change up playcallers but the offense simply couldn’t find its footing. Lichtenhan enters the portal as a grad transfer and should help solidify another team’s line.
Where Do The Buffaloes Go From Here?
Colorado enters the Big 12 next season. Sanders has been calling the 2024 season a “season of expectation” but reaching those expectations is going to be tough. He is no longer a first-year coach meaning he does not have unlimited cuts to his roster. The shine of playing for Coach Prime seems to have worn off. The college football landscape is set up for player movement right now so a lot of players are simply testing the waters possibly for better NIL deals.
Sanders has a tough task ahead of him. The good news? It is still early in the offseason and no doubt Sanders and his staff are recruiting the portal heavily. Once the dust of the offseason settles, it will be interesting to see what this team looks like.
