Confirming a previous report, the Detroit Lions have announced the date when their new uniforms will be released.
At the league meetings this week, Detroit Lions president Rod Wood advanced the obvious idea that new uniforms would be revealed before next month’s NFL Draft, which of course is taking place in Detroit.
‘We’ll be rolling them out probably just before the draft,” Wood said at the owners meetings on Monday. “I think everybody will be excited about it. I’m not going to tease it too much, but I’m really happy with the way it turned out. It was a multi-year process that Brian (Facchini) and Mike Disner really led, worked with Nike and the league, and I think the fans are going to be really excited about it.”
SI.com/All Lions subsequently was first to report the date of said uniform reveal. On Thursday morning, the Lions revealed when the new unforms will be unveiled, confirming that first and only initial report.
In concert with the announcement that the Lions’ new uniforms will be revealed on April 18, the teams sent out an exclusive invite to season ticket holders. Lions Loyal members will have access to purchase up to two total tickets while supplies last, $10 for entry as well as food and drink. Reservations will be accepted up to Friday, April 12. Doors are scheduled to open at 6:00 p.m. ET, and the program will begin at 7:00 p.m. ET.
What will the new Detroit Lions’ uniforms look like?
One thing that feels certain about the Lions’ uniform reveal is the all-gray, pajama-like Color Rush jersey is gone. And good riddance to it. Something that goes better with the new alternate helmet that was adopted last season seems like a lock.
There are certainly some strong advocates for a return of the black alternate jersey.
In a broad sense, Wood said the new uniforms will honor the Lions’ traditional colors-with a twist.
“They’re honoring our traditional color with a little updating and twist. And it gives us a lot more options, too,” Wood added about the new uniforms. “We’re going to introduce a couple different pant options that can go with jerseys, so it will give us different options to wear during the season.”
