Excitement builds as Kentucky teams play in first round of NCAA Tournament
The Wildcats are a three-seed facing the 14-seed Oakland in the opening round.
Coach John Calipari has said multiple times that the only tournament he cares about is this one, and the regular season is the build toward March.
This year feels different from the past few years for Coach Cal; he enters the NCAA tournament with a much deeper roster. Last year, in the loss to Kansas State, Antonio Reeves struggled and the Cats didn’t have a chance. This season, if one player struggles, someone else can step up.
Another team from Kentucky is playing their first-round game.
The Morehead State Eagles are taking on Illinois.
Ahead of the Eagles’ game, we went to Morehead to see some of the excitement around the team’s tournament appearance.
“I think it makes this small city feel bigger than ever, honestly. Like just as equal as other people who go to the NCAA,” said Morehead alum Tymber Cole.
Morehead State pride can be seen across downtown Morehead on Thursday as the Eagles enter the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Fifteen-seed Western Kentucky will face off against two-seed Marquette on Friday.
