BREAKING NEWS: Luton Town star Joe Taylor could make switch after new approach

Scotland are trying to persuade Luton Town loan star Joe Taylor to switch his international allegiances from Wales, sources have told Football Insider.

Taylor, who is currently on loan at Lincoln from Luton, has caught the eye of Scotland scouts this season and they are considering calling up the striker to the national team.

The pacey forward has represented Wales at U21 level, but Taylor also qualifies for Scotland through his grandmother and Steve Clarke is ready to lure him away from their Home Nations rivals.

Taylor, 21, has been named League One Player of the Month for March after scoring six goals in five games last month.

He is currently Lincoln’s top scorer in the 2023-24 campaign with nine goals – despite only joining the club in January.

The forward spent the first half of this season on loan at Colchester United, notching 12 goals and two assists in 27 games across all competitions.

Taylor joined Luton from Peterborough, his place of birth, last January but has made just six senior appearances for the Hatters.

He has made three appearances for Wales at Under-21 level – the most recent of which came in November 2021 against Denmark.

Scotland, who also have Lyndon Dykes, Lawrence Shankland and Che Adams in their striker ranks, will play at this summer’s European Championships in Germany.

Clarke’s side will face Germany, Switzerland and Hungary in the group stage, with their first game coming on 14 June.

Meanwhile, Wales failed to qualify for the tournament after play-off final defeat against Poland last month.
