Jaroslav Chmelar signs a three-year, entry-level contract with the New York Rangers.
On Wednesday, Jaroslav Chmelar and the New York Rangers reached an agreement on a three-year, entry-level contract. The Rangers selected the 20-year-old forward in the fifth round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft (at pick No. 144 overall).

In his second year with Providence College, Chmelar has made significant progress, amassing 15 points (five goals, ten assists) in 26 games this season. He had 29 penalty minutes, which tied him for the team lead.

He played in 33 games as a freshman last season and finished with 13 points (seven goals, six assists).

Chmelar, who is listed at 6-foot-4 and 198 pounds, has the build of a strong power forward and will likely try to gain more muscle and weight now that he is a professional.

The Rangers have signed two NCAA players in as many days. Hugo Ollas, the Rangers’ rookie goalie, signed a two-year contract on March 15. After spending three seasons as a Merrimack College player, Ollas was selected by New York with the seventh overall pick (No. 197) in the 2020 NHL Draft. He has reported to the American Hockey League’s Hartford.
In the 2023 World Junior Championship, Chmelar made a crucial difference for Czechia on the international scene. In seven games, he scored three goals and provided five assists, helping Czechia win a silver medal. He also made an appearance in the World

Before attending Providence, Chmelar was a player for the Finnish team Jokerit U20. He played in 39 games during the 2021–22 season, tallying nine goals and nine assists. He participated in 15 games with the U18 squad the year before.

Ollas and Chmelar will probably report to the Hartford. The young forward will have a fantastic opportunity to experience professional hockey in North America for the first time.

Hartford is vying for a postseason berth and is presently ranked fifth in the Atlantic division. The Czech native from Nove Mesto nad Metuji may find great value in the experience of leading the Wolf Pack to the postseason.
