breaking news: A Southampton player has made a decisive choice that…..

Southampton may not be included in the current race to recruit Santos wonderkid Marcos Leonardo, but that doesn’t mean the Saints never sought to get him.

This week, the Brazilian newspaper Trivela published an article about the striker’s future, alleging that Bayern Munich had just met with his entourage.

The site notes out that the German side has stiff competition from English clubs, which is why Southampton is mentioned. It’s claimed that the Saints tried to buy Marcos Leonardo in December last year, and Santos were actually interested in striking a deal with them.

The problem was Marcos Leonardo’s choice. Trivela claims that the player, his family and his entourage understood that Southampton would not be an ‘interesting project’ for his career, especially when you take into consideration where they were in the Premier League at that stage.

Other English clubs who reportedly made contact with his entourage so far have been Nottingham Forest, Brentford, Chelsea, West Ham and Newcastle United.

The word in Brazil has been that the player will be sold in the coming months, but with Southampton now in the Championship, it’s hard to imagine them in this battle, and their chance to do so has now passed.
