The NFL dropped the hammer on a Cleveland Browns wide receiver on Friday despite him being out for the remainder of the season with an injury. Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the NFL and Roger Goodell handed Browns wideout Michael Woods II a suspension for the remainder of the 2023 regular season.
Woods suffered a ruptured Achilles during an offseason workout with franchise cornerstone Deshaun Watson, effectively ending his season. However, that didn’t stop the NFL from disciplining the Cleveland Browns receiver, handing him a six-game suspension for an incident stemming from last Summer. The details remain undisclosed.
Cleveland Browns WR Michael Woods II: NFL and College Career
The Cleveland Browns selected Woods in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL draft. He played his final college football season with the Oklahoma Sooners, catching 35 passes for 400 yards and two scores. He played his first three seasons with the Arkansas Razorbacks, with his best season being a 32-catch, 619-yard campaign in 2020
Woods received ten targets as a rookie with the Cleveland Browns, catching five passes for 45 yards while taking one carry for negative yards. Woods did not play the season due to an Achilles injury in the offseason.
Other Players Suspended for Violating the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy in 2023
Cleveland Browns WR Michael Woods is not the first player the NFL and Roger Goodell suspended for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. The most highly profiled player to get hit with a suspension this season was New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara. The five-time Pro-Bowler served a three-game suspension to start the season due to an altercation in February 2022. Fellow rusher Dee Eskridge served a six-game suspension to start the season for an incident involving the mother of his child.
