Breaking: Tottenham on the move to seal ‘big-name’ striker after – Expert

Tottenham have been tipped to sign a “big-name” striker in the summer transfer window amid interest in England star Ivan Toney.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Spurs defender Alan Hutton suggested Ferguson would not come in and make an instant impact, but would grow and develop under Ange Postecoglou.

Instead, he recommended the club spend “big money” on a proven, high-profile forward such as Toney, 28, who would elevate the team to the next level.

The latest news on Spurs’ forward pursuit from sources is that Tottenham are leading the race to sign the Brentford star ahead of West Ham, as they line up the signing of a marquee striker this summer.

After the departure of Harry Kane, Postecoglou’s side has lacked a natural striker, with Richarlison struggling to impress while Son Heung-min is preferred on the left wing.

Brighton’s Evan Ferguson, 19, has emerged as an option to become the new number nine, but would need time to adapt to the level and expectation of being a first-choice forward at Spurs.

Tottenham in pole position to sign Ivan Toney

Hutton insisted a ready-made striker would be a game-changer for Spurs, but any deal will depend on what Postecoglou and Daniel Levy decide is best.

It depends,” he told Football Insider.

When you’re looking at strikers, do you want somebody who’s ready-made and is going to come in and affect your team right now?

You’d have to pay for that. You’d be talking about Toney and these kind of guys, that’s big money.

Or, somebody like Evan Ferguson, he’s got the ability, he can score goals and he’s only going to get better, he’s young and hungry to learn.

There’s a lot of good that comes with that, but is he going to come in, play week in, week out, and score the goals you need?

It depends on the process and what the likes of Daniel Levy and Ange are looking for.

If they want to go and compete, Ferguson can do it, but he’s still young, still learning and needs to improve.

I think, if they got that big-hitter and big name at this moment in time, Toney would be incredible, it would really elevate them to that next level.”

In other news, Daniel Levy could pull out all the stops to sign Eberechi Eze.
