The result leaves Celtic rooted to the bottom of the group after two defeats in their opening two games. But for Rodgers personally, it means a record he won’t want reminded of. The Irishman now has the worst of any manager who has taken charge of at least 20 games in Europe’s premier competition.
He has just two victories in those 20 games. 87 others have as many under their belt, but none have managed fewer triumphs. And things won’t get any easier with a double header against Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid next up.
In total, Rodgers has two wins and five draws, with the rest all being defeats. And the first of those two came with Liverpool back in 2014, before beating Anderlecht with the Hoops three years later. And broadcaster BeIn Sports crunched the numbers in a less than sympathetic way on social media. They posted: “Brendan Rodgers becomes statistically the WORST manager to have managed 20 games or more in the history of the Champions League. “2 wins out of 20 is unmatched.”
