BRENTFORD MARCH REWIND

The month of March welcomed one of Brentford Women’s most dominant stretches so far this season, highlighted by a return to Gtech Community Stadium

Following an undefeated run throughout January and February, Brentford Women continued their impressive form through March with five wins from as many games.

After an early December defeat to Dulwich Hamlet Reserves last year, Karleigh Osborne’s side bounced back to win nine straight games coming into March.

Chloe Logie continued to star up front with eight goals throughout the month, highlighted by a hat-trick against Whyteleafe and a double at Gtech Community Stadium against Ashmount Leigh.

Nikki Woods was back to her goalscoring best throughout March, scoring a goal in each of the five games, including a brace against Denham United.

At the other end, goalkeeper Evie Witek and the defensive unit allowed just two goals across the five-game span.

Impressively, Osborne named the same starting line-up for every game in the month, Witek, Regan Graver, Mollie Holmes, Logie, Chloe Webb, Woods, Maddie Phillips, Kirsty Matthews, Freya Worsley, Ella Cottrell and Samantha Read building more chemistry on the pitch.

Following a dominant 14-0 win over Camden and Islington United the previous week in league action, the Bees turned their attention to the Trophy Cup, booking a place in the final with a 4-0 win over Hackney.

While the scoreline paints an easy day for Brentford, the visitors made it tough on the Bees in the opening 30 minutes at Bedfont Sports Club.

Worsley eventually opened the scoring on 34 minutes following a Nikki Woods’ cross.

Read, Logie and Woods got in on the act in the second half, the trio each scoring a goal as Brentford put the foot down and punched their ticket to the final against Whyteleafe on 19 May at Meadowbank Football Ground.

Returning to league action at Bedfont Sports Club, Brentford put together a dominant second half of football to secure a 6-0 win over Whyteleafe.

Read continued her goalscoring form with another header finding the back of the net to give the Bees a 1-0 lead going into the half-time break.

It was the second 45 minutes where Osborne’s side saw some reward for effort, Logie leading the charge with a hat-trick to take her goal tally to 40 by the end of the game.

Woods scored her second goal in as many weeks, while Matthews found the back of the net with a 25-yard wonder strike to help secure the three points.

With one cup final already secured, Brentford’s quest for a second came in the form of a Capital Cup semi-final clash with Comets, the Bees prevailing 7-1 at Bedfont Sports Club.

Unlike the previous two games, it was the first half where Osborne’s side flexed their muscle, Brentford piling on six goals to put the game out of reach by the break.

Logie continued her great form with the opening goal, before a Woods’ corner on 32 minutes doubled the home side’s lead.

The following 13 minutes saw five goals scored, Comets getting one goal back, while Graver, Matthews, Logie and Cottrell also found the back of the net to make it 6-1 at half-time.

Substitute Lucy Bolitho got herself on the scoresheet in the second half to add to Brentford’s lead, finishing off a Phillips’ assist to secure the Bees spot in the Capital Cup final against Leatherhead on 28 April at Meadowbank Stadium.

Returning to the Gtech for the first time since November 2022, Brentford continued to pile on the goals, beating Ashmount Leigh 6-1 in league action.

Playing in front of 4,856 fans, Osborne’s side continued their dominant form. Two goals by Logie and singles by Matthews, Phillips, Woods and Ellen Wardlaw secured another important three points in the side’s quest for promotion.

Phillips’ goal from near the halfway line was the highlight, while Logie and Woods continued their impressive run in front of goal throughout the month of March.

Rounding off the month, Brentford made it 14 straight wins with an impressive 3-0 victory away from home over Denham United.

Worsley found herself on the scoresheet to give the Bees the lead, her fourth league goal of the season, before Woods made it 2-0 before half-time.

Just after the hour mark passed, Woods made it 3-0 and helped the visitors seal all three points.
