Celtics waive veteran two-way player open up roster spot

The Celtics opened up a roster spot on Tuesday after announcing they have waived two-way player Nathan Knight. The veteran forward signed with Boston in late October after he was a late cut by the Knicks during training camp. Boston had an additional open roster spot for Knight after two-way guard Jay Scrubb tore his ACL during training camp and got released.

Knight appeared in 12 games with the Maine Celtics this season and posted rather underwhelming numbers. He averaged 9.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while shooting 46 percent from the field.

The 6-foot-8 big man played 108 NBA games through his first three NBA seasons, including a prominent role with the Wolves for part of the last two seasons. He also spent time with Atlanta during the 2020-21 year. He’s posted 3.8 points per game in his career after going undrafted out of William and Mary in 2020.

After releasing Knight, the Celtics now have a two-way roster spot open once again. Neemias Queta and JD Davison have performed well this year as Boston’s other two-way players. Knight will be eligible to sign with any other team after clearing waivers.
