Cleveland Browns Fire Veteran Running Back

The Cleveland Browns have struggled at the running back position since star Nick Chubb suffered a season-ending injury. Throughout the season, Kareem Hunt, Jerome Ford, and Pierre Strong Jr. have filled in for Chubb. As we enter week 13, it has been reported that the team has cut their veteran running back.

Cleveland has decided to let go of veteran running back Kenyan Drake. Drake was signed to the Browns’ practice squad by the Baltimore Ravens at the NFL trade deadline to add depth to the running back position. He was with the Ravens for two years but did not produce the way the team hoped.

Drake began his NFL career with the Miami Dolphins in 2016. After four years in Miami, he was traded to the Arizona Cardinals, where he proved to be a capable weapon. After a 955-yard rushing season in 2021, he was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders and then to Baltimore the following year. The veteran running back has bounced around and is now a free agent once more.

Since entering the league, the veteran has accumulated 3,866 rushing yards and 33 touchdowns. Many people expected him to succeed after Cleveland signed him to the practice squad, especially since Chubb is out for the rest of the season. However, we did not see him play with the Browns because Hunt has been taking the majority of the offensive snaps.

Cleveland is currently 7-4, good for third place in the AFC North. They will travel to Southern California this week to face the Los Angeles Rams in the hopes of passing the Pittsburgh Steelers for second place in their division. Drake is now a free agent, so it will be interesting to see if a team decides to sign him.
