The latest news to break out of Selhurst Park shows that someone needs to have a talk with Crystal Palace loan manager Mark Bright.
Crystal Palace have announced that Sean Grehan will be returning from his loan at Carlisle after making just three appearances since he joined in January.
It was via club media that it was confirmed, on Thursday.
It was an awful loan move for Grehan, and he’ll probably be delighted to have made the move back to Copers Cope.
It’ll allow him to end the season playing academy football again for the U21s as opposed to rotting in the Carlisle squad with no game time.
But the fact that yet another loan move has faltered will raise some serious questions for Mark Bright who is the loan manager at Palace.
Crystal Palace need to improve how loans are used
Grehan’s loan collapsing is just the latest example in a long stretch of Palace loans which have been terrible.
This all falls on Bright’s head as he’s in charge of the loans.
Arguably, the only success story has been Jesurun Rak-Sakyi who shone brightly at Charlton last season.
But for the most part, the rest have been poorly planned, leaving the young players wasting precious time in their careers.
This is the second loan to Carlisle to be ended prematurely this season with Luke Plange also struggling there.
John-Kymani Gordon has also had a poor season of loans first at Cambridge and now with Wimbledon.
Last season Malcolm Ebiowei was also underwhelming during his loan to Hull City, and now is struggling at RWD Molenbeek.
These things must improve, and it’s up to Bright to make sure they do, by picking better destinations which are more suitable for the players themselves.
Every Crystal Palace player on loan
While Grehan has been recalled, there are still 11 players still on loan representing Palace at various different clubs.
Here is the entire list.
- Malcolm Ebiowei – RWD Molenbeek
- Luke Plange – HJK Helsinki
- Tayo Adaramola – RWD Molenbeek
- Owen Goodman – Colchester
- Malachi Boateng – Dundee FC
- Killian Phillips – Aberdeen FC
- Scott Banks – FC St. Pauli
- Ademola Ola-Adebomi – Burton Albion
- John-Kymani Gordon – AFC Wimbledon
- Kofi Balmer – AFC Wimbledon
- Kelvin Agho – FK Vozdovak
Of this list, there are a few success stories so far, with Plange scoring a great goal recently and Owen Goodman being awarded a Man of the Match award.
So Bright clearly can do it right, he just needs to do it more often, time for Steve Parish to have a chat with him.
