Coventry City fans continue to scratch their heads wondering if the club have signed their second player of the summer transfer window, which officially opens on Friday.
According to several reports in the Serbian press, Red Star Belgrade have sold 22-year-old midfielder Marko Stamenic to the Sky Blues for a fee of €5m (£4.2m) – a claim that has neither been confirmed or denied by the Championship club who are keeping tight-lipped on the matter.
Another big unknown this summer is exactly how much Doug King is prepared to spend or make available to Mark Robins to improve his squad, or whether the club need to cash in on a player, as they did last summer, in order to re-invest. A sell-on fee from Viktor Gyokeres, meanwhile, could change things, should the former City star be sold by Sporting Lisbon.
City continue to be linked with a host of players in various positions, while barely a week goes by when Ben Sheaf – one of the club’s most saleable assets – isn’t linked with interest from higher placed clubs.
Elsewhere, fans are also eagerly awaiting news on next season’s new kits and a fresh shirt sponsor while season tickets continue to be snapped up, with supporters having until next Wednesday to take advantage of the ‘Early Bird’ prices as the club are set to ‘smash’ last season’s total uptake of 19,500.
