As the Cincinnati Bengals begin their focus on the 2024 season, head coach Zac Taylor met with the media Monday and somewhat outlined their vision going forward.
In a season where we saw defensive struggles, up-and-down offensive line performances, and play calls that fans… didn’t agree with, some have not only called for the heads of assistant coaches but for Taylor to be fired.
Taylor isn’t going anywhere. You can take that to the bank.
As far as position coaches and assistants, Taylor plans for them to stick around as well. Taylor said he expects the entire staff to return in 2024, barring a promotion from outside the building.
With defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo a hot candidate for head-coaching jobs last offseason, we have yet to learn if Cincinnati’s down year defensively has impacted his market enough to keep him out of those conversations this time around.
Offensive coordinator Brian Callahan was also a head coaching candidate last winter, staying in the race for the Indianapolis Colts job before they hired Shane Steichen.
After a year without his franchise quarterback for seven games and effectively the first month of the season as Joe Burrow wasn’t himself, a team could opt to go after an offensive coordinator who still helped engineer nine wins.
Quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher interviewed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their offensive coordinator position before returning to Cincinnati with a pay raise. Pitcher could be a name to watch again this winter.
Offensive line coach Frank Pollack has come under fire from fans this season, but it appears Taylor plans to retain him. Pollack appeared to be the only assistant in danger of losing his job, but for now, it appears he’s staying.
