Deal in progress as Aston Villa beat five premier League clubs in race to sign Galatasaray midfielder

The latest Premier League transfer news updates as Aston Villa launch an enquiry for a West Ham United target, while five clubs ‘line up’ for a Wolves striker.

Aston Villa have reportedly made a transfer enquiry for Galatasaray midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo but will face fierce competition from six other clubs.

The Italian only moved to the Turkish Süper Lig six months ago but he’s only made 10 appearances in that time and is reportedly considering his options as a result.

Two serious anterior cruciate ligament injuries have slowed down the 23-year-old’s progress over recent years but he remains a top talent, showcased by five goals in just 349 Süper Lig minutes last term.

Monchi’s imminent arrival as the new president of football operations at Villa Park has sparked a flurry of activity in the summer window, with countless names linked and official contacts reportedly underway for potential signings.

Publication in TurkishTakvim reports Zaniolo is one of the players Villa has approached, claiming Villa is one of seven teams “sitting at the table” to inquire about his services.

According to reports, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Juventus, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, and Arsenal have all made inquiries about Villa. Galatasaray are willing to sell if their €35 million (£29.9 million) estimate is satisfied.

The player is thought to be content regardless of whether he remains or departs because Galatasaray would provide Champions League action, although a move abroad could open up a more lucrative career path.

In other West Midlands transfer news, Villa’s local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers face a major choice as wonderkid striker Fabio Silva draws interest from all around Europe.

The 20-year-old had a good 2022/23 season in two halves, scoring seven goals in 20 Jupiler Pro League matches with Anderlecht before moving on to PSV Eindhoven, where he scored five goals in 19 games.

According to the Express & Star, his tremendous progress from his early days in a Wolves shirt has piqued the interest of Galatasaray, Ajax, Sevilla, AS Roma, and AC Milan.

Wanderers struggled for goals last season and could use some help up front, especially with Raul Jimenez and Diego Costa on the way out.

Silva, who cost Porto €40 million (£34.2 million) in 2020, is finally beginning to demonstrate his enormous potential. It remains to be seen whether Wolves would agree to a permanent relocation and, if so, how much they would expect.
