Wolves are reportedly one of a few clubs waiting to snap up a player from West Ham United on a free transfer this summer.
The Premier League season ends this weekend, and Gary O’Neil can start to think about shaping his squad for 2024/25.
It will be his first full summer window as manager, and he is hoping to have a productive one after being unable to do much in the final days of the last summer window and the January one.
Wolves are expected to have a bit more freedom to spend this time around.
But the club are seemingly still on the lookout for bargains, with it being claimed over the weekend that Wolves are now eyeing a move for West Ham full-back Ben Johnson…
Wolves eyeing Ben Johnson, who’s set to snub latest contract offer from West Ham
It has been reported over the weekend that Ben Johnson is set to turn down an offer of a new contract from West Ham United.
He’s made 22 appearances this season, but started only seven times.
Johnson came through the ranks at West Ham, making his debut in 2019 and has made 109 appearances for the first-team to date.
TEAMtalk have reported that Wolves are now one of several clubs interested in snapping up Johnson, who will become a free agent this summer if he does not agree a new deal with the Hammers.
Primarily a right-back, Johnson has featured in a number of positions in the backline for West Ham. He’s played on the left side, and also as a wing-back. For the U21s, he has even turned out as a centre-back.
Versatility is often a very desired trait in a footballer and it is little wonder Wolves have interest in Johnson, with the Hammers even describing him as ‘West Ham United’s Mr. Versatility’ earlier this year.
The £20,000-a-week man is also suggested as ‘a two-footed and versatile defender’ and someone who has been ‘impressing with his technical ability, maturity and work ethic’.
Given these comments, Wolves could very well find their new Jonny Castro Otto in Johnson. The Spaniard was also a very versatile player who could operate on either side, and he certainly had a strong work ethic and was a very consistent performer.
Nelson Semedo has recently been linked with a move away from Wolves, with clubs in Saudi apparently taking an interest. So it’s no surprise there has now been a link to a new right-back.
