Dean Jones urged Aston Villa to move in for 29-year Manchester City defender this summer

Journalist Dean Jones recently pushed Aston Villa to sign Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte this summer in an interview with Football FanCast. Jones stated,

“I believe Laporte could be a better signing than Tielemans.” I mean, he would immediately improve this club, and for Emery, simply the type of mentality that you have coming into his team just continues to rise.”

Laporte’s Recent Etihad Stadium Season

Laporte has been a sporadic presence in Pep Guardiola’s team this season, frequently falling behind John Stones, Manuel Akanji, and Ruben Dias in the pecking order at Man City. Last season, the Spaniard had one assist in 24 outings for his current club in various tournaments.

Despite limited playing time this season, the 29-year-old has been a rock at the defense, averaging 0.9 tackles and 2.5 clearances per game in Premier League games. He’s also been careful with the ball when passing it from inside his half, as indicated by his pass completion rate of 93.1% in the English top flight (data via whoscored).

Laporte is a tough tackler who can use his big size to produce some last-second blocks for his side. When the opponent is on the offensive, he usually clears the danger and can win his fair share of aerial duels because to his strong 1.88m frame.

The Spanish prodigy is also a strong passer of the ball and would be a wonderful addition to the Villans’ squad this summer. He is primarily a central defender, although he can also play left back if his manager requests it.

Laporte will give Aston Villa manager Unai Emery’s defense more bite and steel. He might even help the West Midlands team compete for a top-half Premier League finish.

Overall, Laporte would be a terrific alternative for Emery to examine during the summer transfer window. He is already familiar with the Premier League and would bring a winning mentality to Aston Villa’s dressing room next season.
