Dominique Wilkins briefly played for the Boston Celtics near the end of his career.
And, despite some severe criticism of Boston for some rather unpleasant things, Wilkins cherished his time in the city both while and after his career ended.
Wilkins told DJ Vlad of NBACentral that he had never experienced any of the prejudice that others have spoken out against:
“I lived in Boston five years after I retired. I really liked it a lot. I lived out in the suburbs in a place called Dover, Massachusetts out near Wellesley, and I was treated very well. So for me, I didn’t see any of that personally.”
Dominque Wilkins says he never experienced any racism in Boston

Boston is one of the most important cities in America, in terms of history, culture, and sports.
Sadly, over the years it has gained a reputation for having some fans do repugnant and offensive things to players and fans based on the color of their skin.
But Wilkins claims that never affected him.
In fact, he liked the city so much that he lived there after he retired, as he noted.
Multiple NBA stars, including LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, have commented on the racism they have experienced in Boston.
Recently, Celtics star Jaylen Brown has also touched upon it.
“It’s not the whole Celtic fan base, but it is a part of the fan base that exists within the Celtic nation that is problematic,” Brown said, via the New York Times.
This is something that the city of Boston and the NBA will continue to deal with and try to put behind them.
They don’t want the awful actions of some fans to tarnish everything else.
It is good that Wilkins never experienced prejudice when he was living in Boston and hopefully, there will come a time when all NBA players are able to say the same thing.
