Last season, he took a significant step in his development, going on loan to Exeter City in League One. There, he shone brightly under former Latics player and manager Gary Caldwell, making 36 appearances and netting his first senior goal against Reading.
As Rankine moves to Wigan, he brings with him a reputation for speed, trickery, and a strong work ethic both on and off the ball. Commenting on his transfer, Rankine expressed his excitement and readiness to contribute to his new team.
“I’m so excited to be here.
“It’s been in the works for a while, so I’m really excited to be here and get the deal done – I can’t wait to get out there in front of the fans now.
“It’s the right step for my career. I feel like I’ve got a really good opportunity to progress and develop, and I just want to play the best football that I can here.”
