Fabrizio Romano delivers major update on Leeds United man who left on loan after relegation

Leeds United loaned out defender Robin Koch to Eintracht Frankfurt for the final year of his contract, and in the process, he has forced his way into the Germany squad for Euro 2024.

After relegation from the Premier League, the stock of multiple players in the squad was as low as it has ever been, for good reasons too.

However, instead of fighting to get the club back into the top flight, a lot of them exercised loan clauses in their contracts and jumped ship across Europe.

Robin Koch has already sealed permanent Leeds United exit agreement

One of the first to leave and essentially confirm his permanent Elland Road exit was centre-back Robin Koch, heading back to Germany.

He moved to Eintracht Frankfurt for the final year of his Leeds deal, and has since impressed enough to earn himself a pre-contract agreement.

It was wrapped up quite swiftly in January for the towering German, who has found much more defensive comfort in the middle of a back three setup, and has re-found his goalscoring touch from attacking set pieces – he’s scored four in all competitions this term having never scored a competitive goal for Leeds.

Robin Koch called into Germany squad for Euro 2024

Now, it looks as though the turnaround of Koch’s career is essentially complete ahead of a home tournament this summer.

With Euro 2024 around the corner in Germany, the centre-back is going to be drafted into their squad, as Fabrizio Romano has revealed:

Champions League finalist and Borussia Dortmund talisman Mats Hummels won’t be in the squad, though, at the age of 35.

Koch proving his worth not long after relegation horrorshow

You don’t want to start conspiracy that players downed tools when we looked like getting relegated, but some of them looked like they had given up.

Add to that the fact that Koch has now revived his career from the instant he left the club after relegation, and it makes you wonder if he wasn’t at 100% for us.

The Bundesliga is a different league to be a centre-back in, though, especially in a back three that is performing far better in the division than Leeds were.

It’ll be interesting to see if he’s involved in the games, though.
