Mason Mount, a Chelsea midfielder, is on Liverpool’s list of midfield targets this summer.
Rumors about Mount potentially moving to Anfield have grown louder in recent weeks. Fabrizio Romano, a journalist, addressed those rumors on his YouTube channel yesterday, confirming that Liverpool is interested in the 24-year-old.
“They are still speaking and discussing, but everything is on hold at the moment – there is still no agreement between Chelsea and Mason Mount,” said the transfer expert. “It’s one to watch in May, June, and July, otherwise for Chelsea, it could be the case to explore options on the market and discuss with other clubs.
“There are many rumors about Liverpool. True, they are aware of Mount’s situation, but we also know about Jude Bellingham and other players such as Matheus Nunes. In the summer, they have a long waiting list for midfielders. Mount, on the other hand, is one to keep an eye on.”
Romano also stated that a final decision on the England player will be made before the start of the next season.
“The decision is expected to be made before the start of the next season,” the journalist added. Mount has a busy summer ahead of him. Something will have to give.
Mount will likely divide opinion among Liverpool fans, as he did at Chelsea. Some will see him as a good target, while others will not.
In reality, it’s hard to see how any Reds could turn their noses up at the 24-year-old. At any rate, he’s definitely worth a gamble.
Mount possesses two key things Liverpool lack in their current midfield options. Firstly, he’s always fit. Since breaking into the Chelsea first team in 2019, he’s only missed 10 league games.
Mount, on the other hand, never stops moving. Jurgen Klopp’s midfield, which has consisted of players who have done nothing but run for the past six years, is in desperate need of new legs. Mount could certainly help with that.
On top of that, he’s an extremely capable player. He hasn’t shown much this season, possibly due to the pressures of being an academy player made good at Chelsea. But he was also the London club’s Player of the Year for the previous two seasons. Jurgen Klopp previously described him as a £60 million player. Perhaps a change is all he requires.
If he fails to reach an agreement at Stamford Bridge between now and the summer, it appears that one will be offered to him. As of now, Liverpool appears to be the most likely to provide that.
