These are the words of Fabrizio Romano, who has stated on his YouTube channel that the Reds are interested in signing the Croatian.
“Keep an eye also on Josko Gvardiol because many top clubs are monitoring him.
“Chelsea wanted him last summer, also Manchester City and Liverpool are monitoring the player. There is considerable interest, but nothing will be decided in February or March – it will take time.”
The 21-year-old has been the subject of numerous transfer rumors from across Europe, and it remains unclear where he will end up come August.
Romano also hinted that any club that entices him away from Leipzig will have to break the bank, with Die Roten Bullen demanding a world record fee for a defender that will likely blow Manchester United’s £80 million fee for Harry Maguire out of the water.
“We know Leipzig wants to make Gvardiol the most expensive center-back in history,” he explained. “This is an important point in the story.
“Many clubs are interested in him. Liverpool has also sent scouts to watch the player several times in recent months. As a result, keep an eye on the situation.”
Gvardiol continued his excellent form for RB Leipzig this season with a goal against Manchester City in the Champions League tonight, as the German side drew 1-1 with Pep Guardiola’s team to set up an enticing last 16 second leg at the Etihad in two weeks.
