He made over 150 Premier League outings and has represented his country 100 times.
Wrexham have spent big money to recruit former Premier League player James McClean to the Racecourse.
Since being taken over by a consortium led by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the Welsh club has been able to flex its relative financial muscles in comparison to the clubs around them. The sum for McClean, who has made 100 appearances for Ireland, has not been announced, although The Independent reports that the 34-year-old has cost the club £250,000. This is on top of what they call “championship level” pay.
The Derry born winger is well known for his tenacious and hardworking style of play having spent long spells and West Bromwich Albion, Sunderland and Stoke as well as two stints at Wigan. Never a prolific finisher he has chipped in with 69 goals over the course of his 553 game career.
If the rumored sum is genuine, he will not break the club record of £300,000 established by Ollie Palmer when they were still in non-league. He will be joined by another new acquisition, Will Boyle, who played in the Championship for Huddersfield last season.
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson told the BBC: “I’m really pleased with the signing of someone of James’ calibre.” James McClean has made over 15 Premier League outings.
Wrexham will begin the season against newly relegated MK Dons. However, it is expected that McClean will miss the League Two opening and will rejoin the squad next week.
