Ivan Toney has taken to social media to send an emotional message to Brentford fans, which could perhaps be a hint that the rumoured Tottenham target is on his way out of the club this summer.
Toney has just a year left to run on his contract at the Brentford Community Stadium and his future has thus been the subject of constant speculation over recent months.
The 28-year-old continues to be mooted as a target for Spurs, with ESPN reporting just a couple of days ago that Ange Postecoglou had asked the club to sign a number nine this summer and that the England international is one of the names on the Australian’s wishlist.
Spurs are thought to be competing with the likes of West Ham United and Chelsea for the centre-forward’s signature (TBR Football) but it remains to be seen if Tottenham would be willing to meet Brentford’s asking price, with GiveMeSport stating last week that the Lilywhites baulked at the Bees’ £60m demand.
Is Ivan Toney on the move this summer?
While it might be unclear where Toney will end up this summer, it seems inevitable that he will leave the West London club, with the striker now taking to Instagram to state that he will ‘always remember’ the reception he got when he returned from his ban.
He wrote: “This season has been personally challenging, especially being unable to help the boys during the early stages of the season. Stepping back on the pitch and receiving the support I did in January was a moment I’ll always remember! Thank you for your support throughout the season! [Bee and red heart emoji]”.
Spurs Web Opinion
I do not see Spurs paying upwards of £45 or £50m for Toney, given his contract situation but having said that, Tottenham’s plans might potentially change if they receive a big offer for Richarlison from Saudi Arabia.
