Former Timberwolves Guard Austin Rivers Interested In Joining Celtics

Austin Rivers, the former Minnesota Timberwolves guard, is an unrestricted free agent currently and has given insights into his professional journey on ‘The Bill Simmons Podcast’.

His father, Doc Rivers, took the Boston Celtics to the 2008 NBA Championship, while Rivers was just a teen back then.

According to The Bill Simmons Podcast, Rivers actually had nothing but praise for Brad Stevens, the Celtics’ president of basketball operations.

Even more recently, he had a conversation about a prospective contract with the former Celtics coach.

Austin Rivers mentioned, “I had a great talk with Brad actually like a week ago,”

“I told him I’d love to be a part of the team. He said a lot of positive things. We’ll see if that’s something that will come to fruition. I’ve always loved Brad. I’ve always been a fan of him.”

Malcolm Brogdon, Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, Payton Pritchard, and Derrick White are all guards there with the Celtics. If Brogdon’s injury problems don’t get better, Rivers might start the season in place of him.

Austin Rivers averaged 19.5 minutes and 4.9 points per game while playing for Minnesota, where he appeared in 52 games. He still has a respectable shooting rate, and because of his background, he might be more open to a position.

Rivers, who has 11 NBA seasons of experience, played for the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2022–2023.

In 52 games, he played 19.5 minutes per game and averaged 4.9 points on a 43.5 percent shooting rate. His rebound rate was 1.6, and he had 1.4 assists.

Even if it seems a little doubtful that Rivers will wind up playing for the Boston Celtics, it is obvious that he respects what Stevens is attempting to accomplish in Boston.
