In an effort to add more size and outside shooting, the Celtics decided to swap out Marcus Smart for Kristaps Porzingis.

With Porzingis on board, the front court suddenly got more crowded which explains why Boston also settled on sign-and-trading Grant Williams to the Dallas Mavericks.

Williams was extension-eligible and with the Celtics needing to free up money for Jaylen Brown’s supermax extension, they shipped him out to the Mavericks who needed more defensive-minded players around Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

Despite being undersized, Williams is able to guard most big men and has become a reliable 3-point shooter from the corners.

However, he’s also got a great off-court personality and he discussed his playful beef with Jayston Tatum’s son Deuce via The Hoop Chat.

In the video, Williams says that the “fighting” isn’t reciprocated and calls Deuce his younger brother whom he’ll always be there for.

Williams and Tatum have a close relationship and the former got a chance to see Deuce grow up during their time together with the Celtics.

It sounds like their bond will continue despite them being far away from each other, a heartwarming moment between players and their families.

However, Williams will have other things to worry about when the 2023-24 NBA season arrives as he’s expected to play a sizable role in helping Dallas get back into the postseason and potentially compete for a title.
