NFL Decides To Allow Controversial ‘Tush Push’ Play Amidst Eagles Dominance
The Philadelphia Eagles have gained a reputation as the NFL’s top team when it comes to running the ball in for touchdowns or picking up crucial first downs, thanks to their perfected play known as the ‘Tush Push’.
In this play, the offensive line pushes quarterback Jalen Hurts forward to gain the necessary yardage. While some coaches and executives have questioned its legality, a conference call from Troy Vincent confirmed that the ‘Tush Push’ remains a legal play, with Vincent acknowledging that the Eagles execute it exceptionally well.
NFL is leaving the “Tush Push” as a legal play for the 2024 season. NFL executive Troy Vincent said today that there will not be any proposal presented this off-season to ban it for next season. “The Eagles,” Vincent said on a conference call, “do it well.”
Despite other teams attempting their versions of the play, none have matched the Eagles’ success. This could lead to scrutiny from owners and coaches regarding its legality. However, replicating the Eagles’ success requires a top-notch offensive line, which not many teams possess.
Heading into the 2024 season, the Eagles face changes in their offensive line lineup, particularly with the retirement of center Jason Kelce. It’s expected that Cam Jurgens will move from right guard to center, with newcomer Matt Hennessy possibly stepping in at right guard.
While the ‘Tush Push’ will remain legal for the Eagles, losing Kelce and other depth pieces could affect their efficiency. Nevertheless, the team remains optimistic about their offensive line’s abilities as they prepare for the upcoming season.
