Jack Rudoni and Sorba Thomas are of interest to other clubs, and the Terriers have put very different valuations on their heads
Huddersfield Town have set a high asking price for Jack Rudoni in order to fend off Coventry City interest, per Alan Nixon via Patreon.
The 22-year-old has been a revelation for Huddersfield since his 2022 move from AFC Wimbledon.
Mark Robins is looking to bolster his midfield ranks this summer, a desire only made stronger following a report from Football Insider that revealed Callum O’Hare will reject any new contract offers to stay with the Sky Blues, amid Premier League interest in him.
Rudoni appears to be a player they like, but the newly relegated Terriers don’t appear interested in rolling over for clubs who are eyeing up cut-price deals for their key players this summer.
Huddersfield Town set Jack Rudoni and Sorba Thomas price-tags amid Coventry City interest
Revealing via his Patreon, journalist Alan Nixon states that Huddersfield have set a £10 million asking price for Rudoni, in what is a clear statement of intent to retain his services.
It also sends a clear message to clubs looking at their players that they will not find the bargains they’re looking for, should they come shopping at the John Smith’s Stadium this summer.
Nixon states that Coventry boss Mark Robins sees Rudoni as an ideal replacement for the likely outgoing O’Hare, as he looks to piece together a squad that can get over the Championship promotion line next season.
However, upon hearing the amount that they would have to part with in order to obtain his services, Nixon says that Coventry have – at least for now – backed away from any potential deal.
Nixon ends his report by also suggesting that another of Town’s key players, Sorba Thomas, can leave the club for as little as £750,000 this summer, a figure that will surely attract the attention of Championship clubs.
Thomas returned to the Terriers setup last season after being seemingly exiled by old boss Mark Fotheringham, but despite creating the second-most chances in the entire league with 123, the Wales international was unable to help keep his side in the second tier of English football.
Jack Rudoni would be an excellent fit in Coventry City
The Sky Blues have been one of the more open, and entertaining sides to watch in the Championship under Robins, as they’ve become one of the more effective counter-attacking sides in the second tier.
In fact, City were tied sixth with Middlesbrough in the goals per match average last season, with 1.5, and were also in possession of the sixth highest expected goals tally for the season at 65.5 – per FotMob.
This system would likely suit Rudoni very well, as he can and has lined up as both a traditional central midfield player, and as a number 10 behind the striker for Huddersfield last season.

---|---|---|---|
Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
23/24 | 35 | 5 | 3 |
22/23 | 46 | 2 | 5 |
Five goals and three assists from the central midfield of a relegated side is a highly respectable return, whilst his 75 shots were bettered by only three percent of Championship central midfielders last season – per FotMob.
City are still looking for that type of player to replace Gustavo Hamer, and Rudoni’s profile is that of a central midfield player who scores goals, and can break up opposition attacks too.
Jack Rudoni staying at Huddersfield Town would not be the worst move
As much as a move back to the Championship would be a good move for Rudoni, playing a season in League One shouldn’t be something that he should run from.
Should he stay with the Terriers next season, he would instantly become one of, if not the best central midfield players in the division – something he proved was the case during his time with Wimbledon.

---|---|---|---|
Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
2021/22 | 41 | 12 | 5 |
Rudoni staying on would also hand a massive boost to Huddersfield’s promotion chances, as they look to make an instant return to the second tier next season.
Getting that taste for promotion and all the experience that would bring to Rudoni could serve his career even better in the long run, and should he produce a similar season statistics-wise to his last third tier campaign, – 12 goals & five assists – that wouldn’t do his price tag any harm either.
