Ivan Toney unvails what stunned Brentford players after Manchester United draw

Ivan Toney was left aghast that Brentford could not get the three points against Manchester United in Saturday’s 1-1 draw after seeing the post-match stats in the dressing room after full-time.

The hosts dominated the attacking play with United looking lacklustre in their build-up play. Erik ten Hag saw his side ship 14 shots in the first half alone, and ended up ceding 31 efforts on their goal by the end.

Brentford are not fault-free though, only managing to direct five on target in all – the same as United did within their 11 shots. The visitors thought they won it in added time when Mason Mount powered the ball home in the 96th minute.

managed to utilise the nine minutes added on for injuries and grab an equaliser with seconds left to go. Thomas Frank will be relieved his side earned a point but also irked by the fact his team could not gain the win.

Toney – who acknowledged he missed a number of chances – was certainly of that mindset and explained how he and his teammates were aggrieved not to have got more once they took a look at the stats, which also included 14 corners.

“I feel like it’s points dropped really,” he told Sly Sports. “Like you see, the stats… we looked at the stats in there just after and we don’t know how we have not scored more than one goal.

“The chance I’ve missed, we hit the woodwork, what, three or four times? We created good opportunities but it means nothing when we draw the game.”

United were particularly poor in attack and could not provide enough service to Rasmus Hojlund, with Ten Hag branding the final-third play as slow. Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford were ineffective while substitute Antony could not turn the tide.

United sit eight points off the top five and 11 points from the top four with nine games left to play, having lost 11 of their 29 league matches this season.
