Everton midfielder Amadou Onana confessed that he doesn’t know what will happen in the future about a Goodison Park exit, according to Paul Brown.
The former Daily Star journalist told GiveMeSport on Wednesday (18 October) that there is “a lot of outside noise” at the moment due to the potential takeover by 777 Partners, after the 22-year-old revealed to La Capitale on 11 October that he doesn’t have a “crystal ball” when asked about his Toffees future.
Although he does not believe the Belgian international’s revelation is “particularly concerning,” he does believe it “isn’t what the fans want to hear.”
“I mean, I suppose it’s not a positive thing when you hear a player saying something like that,” Brown remarked. “It really depends on the context, but I suspect there is a lot of outside noise at the moment with Everton because of the takeover that is currently taking place.”
“There is the fact that the club has not had the best start to the season, and there are already questions about how far they can go or whether they will be in trouble again.” I’m sure getting away with their national team is a wonderful break from the Premier League in general, because the Premier League can be a pressure cooker and a grind.
“So I don’t think it’s particularly concerning for players to say such things, but I guess it’s not what fans want to hear.”
It’s not ideal for Everton fans to hear one of their great players acknowledge he’s not sure about his future at the club.
After a good first season in the Premier League, the midfielder was connected with a number of clubs, but no firm offer was made.
The worry is that the longer the Toffees continue to lose money off the field, the more likely it is that they will sell assets like Onana at some time.
The entire scenario surrounding a possible purchase by 777 Partners must be affecting the players because they don’t know how safe the club’s future is.
But, with the dispute raging on and fresh questions being made about the company’s eligibility to take over at Goodison Park, it’s unlikely to be addressed anytime soon.
