The Carver (Ala.) running back is one of Josh Crawford’s top targets at the position.
Despite being committed to Alabama, Carver (Ala.) running back Anthony Rogers is still open to visits.
That included a visit on Saturday to Georgia for the Bulldogs’ spring scrimmage. He and Georgia running backs coach Josh Crawford picked up communication last month, and those two have been in regular contact since then.
That led to Rogers’ return visit to Athens
“Me and Coach Crawford have been communicating for the past month. We set up a date for me to come up here,” Rogers told Dawgs247. “He just lets me know that I’m a running back he’s got his eyes on. He’d love for me to come play for him at Georgia.”
How would Rogers describe his own commitment status?
CBSSports names Georgia’s biggest question mark during spring football
Every college football team has holes to fill on its roster heading into the offseason. Whether it’s depth at a position or two or the need for a starter to emerge at a position, every program is dealing with something. CBSSports named its biggest spring question for each team in the SEC.
When it came time to break down No. 1 Georgia, the discussion turned to cornerback.
Who steps up at cornerback? It’s hard to find any holes when looking at Georgia’s roster, but if there is one major question mark, it lies in the secondary. Specifically, the Bulldogs are losing two starting cornerbacks to the NFL Draft. Kamari Lassiter is a potential first-round pick and Tykee Smith’s versatility is virtually irreplaceable. On top of that, UGA is breaking in a new cornerbacks coach (Donte Williams) and a new secondary coach (Travaris Robinson) this spring.
It helps that Georgia is returning one starter in Daylen Everette, though he was inconsistent in 2023. His potential running mates on the outside are sophomore Daniel Harris, who finished his freshman season with one tackle, and third-year DB Julian Humphrey, who’s coming off a season-ending injury suffered in November. Five-star freshman Ellis Robinson is a name to know, too. The slot corner position — known as STAR in Georgia’s nomenclature — seems to be in good hands with sophomore Joenel Aguero, but he has big shoes to fill with Smith’s departure.
The loss of production on defense stands out, especially when compared to the offense. The Bulldogs lost several key playmakers on that side of the ball this offseason, a list that includes defensive tackle Zion Logue, defensive end Tramel Walthour, inside linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson, cornerback Kamari Lassiter, STAR Tykee Smith, and safety Javon Bullard. Georgia does have several proven players back on that side of the ball, including safety Malaki Starks, inside linebacker Smael Mondon, defensive tackle Nazir Stackhouse, outside linebacker Chaz Chambliss, and cornerback Daylen Everette.
