JUST IN: West Brom and Hull City eye attacker swoop, contract up next month

Sheffield Wednesday attacker Josh Windass has emerged on the radar of Hull City and West Brom, as detailed in a report by The Star.

Sheffield Wednesday face a battle to keep hold of the forward this summer amid interest from elsewhere in the Football League. His contract at Hillsborough expires at the end of next month and he is due to become a free agent as things stand.

Windass, 30, is in ongoing talks with the Owls over future following the end of the 2023/24 season as they managed to stay up in the Championship under Danny Rohl. He has been with the South Yorkshire outfit since 2020 and has a big decision to make on his situation.

In this latest update regarding his future by The Star, fellow second tier clubs such as Hull City, West Brom and Stoke City are considering a swoop for him ahead of the next campaign. Derby County have also been credited with an interest following their promotion from League One.

Hull City have been linked with Windass before in the past due to his dad’s links to the club. His father, Dean, scored the winner in the 2008 play-off final against Bristol City at Wembley to earn the Tigers’ first ever promotion to the Premier League.

The East Yorkshire outfit are without a manager at the moment following their surprise decision to cut ties with Liam Rosenior earlier this week. They finished 7th in this past term and were three points off the play-offs in the end.

As for West Brom, they are in play-off semi-final action against Southampton as they look to reach the final and have their first leg against Southampton coming up on Sunday afternoon at the Hawthorns.

The Tigers and the Baggies could see Windass someone to bolster their respective attacking departments for the future. However, their transfer plans will both be up in the air right now.

Sheffield Wednesday signed him on an initial loan deal before making his switch permanent shortly after.

He scored the winner for them in the League One play-off final last year against Barnsley.
