Kaizer Chiefs eye January transfer window to strengthen squad.
With three months remaining until the next window, Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi reveals his intentions to enhance the squad. Despite a busy recent transfer window that saw seven new players join the ranks and a complete overhaul of the technical team, the Chiefs remain unsatisfied with their current roster and aim to strengthen further.
Nabi confirmed the team’s focus on acquiring a striker during a post-match press conference following a 2-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns. He stated. “I think my striker [Ranga Chivaviro] today and last game, he scored, okay but the level we want is higher.” Acknowledging the team’s need for a more impactful forward, Nabi added. “Honestly, the market in Africa is very, very short. You have maybe three, four, or five good players, but all the clubs in Africa take them, like Esperance, Al Ahly, Zamalek.”
A cautious approach to signing
Nabi emphasised his commitment to making thoughtful decisions rather than rushing into signings under pressure. “If I feel under pressure and just sign, then I don’t respect the responsibility I have,” he explained, as quoted by Kick Off.
With no games scheduled in October due to the international break, Nabi plans to use the time wisely, scouting for quality players before the transfer window opens on January 1.
Nabi expressed gratitude for the support from club management, saying, “Thank you to the owners and committee for giving me an open budget for that, but I don’t want to waste the money during the window.” This financial backing will enable him to pursue quality signings that align with the team’s vision
