I AM LEAVING: Portsmouth expected to offload midfielder on a temporary basis as star to leave Fratton Park immediately

Portsmouth are likely to loan out new signing Reuben Swann this summer, according to BBC reporter Andrew Moon on X.

Portsmouth are expected to give the youngster the green light to head out the exit door on a temporary basis ahead of the new season to get some experience under his belt.

Swann, 18, has been snapped up by the Championship new boys from AFC Sudbury in non-league. He has penned a two-year deal, with the club holding an option for a further 12 months.

He has told their website: “It’s a proud moment for me – and my family – to sign my first professional contract with Pompey. I’m happy to get things over the line and now I’m excited to start training with the rest of the team soon.

“The manager told me that this club is moving in the right direction and I’m just so thankful to be here. I’m grateful to the coaches and my team-mates at Sudbury and now this is a big step up for me – but I’m confident I can meet the demands.”

Portsmouth plans

Portsmouth have brought in Swann as one for the future and will be eager to see how he develops down the line.

He was on the books at Colchester United before joining AFC Sudbury back in 2022.

The teenager has since caught the eye in the Southern League Premier Division Central and has now landed himself a dream move to Fratton Park.

A loan exit would do him good though and would give him a good opportunity to get used to senior football.

Swann is still young and isn’t expected to break into the senior set-up under John Mousinho anytime soon as they gear up for life in the second tier.

What next for Portsmouth?

Portsmouth have been patient with their recruitment since winning the League One title. They went up along with Derby County and Oxford United and have the chance to bring in some new faces now.

They have signed defender Jordan Williams and winger Jacob Murphy following their exits from Barnsley and Oxford United respectively, with more arrivals on the way.
